Staff Interview Vol. 3: June Cassidy, LMFT
We interviewed June Cassidy, LMFT and REAT, who newly joined BHT.
Q. Can you tell me about your work?
A. As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Registered Expressive Art Therapist, I provide Person-centered therapy and sometimes integrate Expressive Arts Therapy when appropriate. I work with children, youths, adults, couples and families. I also provide therapy in Cantonese and Mandarin. Building an authentic and trusting therapeutic relationship is the basis of my work. I also believe in people’s strengths and resilience that could support them to overcome their challenges, and I see myself as a “co-pilot,” supporting my clients to identify and utilize their strengths and resources.
Q. Why did you join BHT?
A. I first heard about BHT from my good friend Clark, who is also a therapist here at BHT. I was very impressed by the way BHT embraces diversity, and I believe I could learn a lot from everyone that I work with here.
Q. Tell me about your background.
A. Professionally, I have been a Registered Social Worker in Hong Kong before I came to the U.S., and I have worked at hospitals, schools, and crisis centers. I also have a Post Graduate Diploma in Music Therapy and MA in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Expressive Arts Therapy.
Personally, I have a bi-cultural background, i.e. Chinese and Irish.
Q. What is good for you to work with BHT?
A. I really appreciate how supportive my BHT colleagues are. They have always been very kind and thoughtful. With the great teamwork, I feel very grounded and well supported working here.
Q. How about challenge?
A. As a therapist and a mother of two young children, sometimes it is challenging to find space to practice self-care.
Q. What is your goal? How do you want to grow?
A. One of my areas of interest is grief and loss, and I have always wanted to learn about people’s grief experience across cultures. I hope someday I could focus on this area and conduct some research.
Q. Any message to readers?
